A COOL PLACE TO BURY YOUR HEAD

When a person loves you gives you a ticket for a concert together, we know it. But when you read that the concert is by the band “A Place to Bury Strangers”, the adrenaline starts to rise and you are immediately in love.For Plato this was the necessary condition for any philosopher interested in seeking the truth. The truth, in this case, is the amazing performance proposed by these talented artists. 

You know, for me the performance starts as soon as the barman is making my Vodka&Redbull and the sound engineer is completing the sound-check of a totally unknown band to me, ...but still for a few seconds...

Anyway....in front of my eyes three girls lined up at the edge of the stage, with central drums and guitars on the sides, ready to release a never-ending limitless energy on the audience! Wow! From the beginning it was clear that their purpose would not be limited to “prepare” the audience for the main band, absolutely not. The “Baby In Vain”, or Lola Hammerich and Andrea Thuesen (singer-songwriter-guitarists and keyboards) and the mighty Benedicte Pierleoni (drums) gave us emotions, sounds, screams, dissonances, and literally crossed our bodies with 60Hz punches up to 16000Hz distortions. An explosive mixture of the best post-grunge, noise-rock, and much more. Needless to say, my passage from the sceptical “Who are these?” to “I have become your fan! Congratulations!” was really fast. Cool! 

But just the time to smoke a cigarette and the stage begun to change...

The room lights fade out, dark shapes wandered around the stage, the visuals coming from different projectors crossed each other, the white smoke filled the void, the lasers appeared and disappeared as green and red swords, the inevitable strobe lighted – one behind the drums, the other in front of the band -, almost knowing that they would have been the main characters on the stage at one point of the show.

All this is in the wise hands of Els Cox (vee-jay/light-jay) who with an impressive precision would perfectly express all the musical emotions that Oliver Ackermann (guitars and voice) concentrated from the beginning to the end in his magical relationship between love, anger, harmony, destruction and his natural string extensions, and with his simple yet enveloping singing would directly express them in our heads. I know and I have no doubt.

 So,you can read everything else in the reviews and articles about this Live Concert of the “A Place to Bury Strangers” in Bologna (Italy) that was simply amazing. I can add that Lia Simone Brawsell (drums) was possessed by a demon and that Sir Dion Lunadon (bass) is a Gentlemen. I knew, I would have gone away happily with my ears whistling and with a new, inexplicable experience to tell. In that moment out of the space-time I knew it because I was ready to find the truth.
